Done Deal: Sheffield Wednesday Announce Contract Agreement with Former Ipswich Loanee.

Confirmed: Son of former Super Eagles striker offered new deal by Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday has released their retained and released list for the 2023-2024 season on their official website. Among the seven players offered new contracts is Dominic Iorfa, a former invitee to Nigeria’s Olympic National Team in 2014. Joining him in the contract renewals are Barry Bannan, Cameron Dawson, Di’Shon Bernard, Liam Palmer, Will Vaulks, and Josh Windass.

Dominic Iorfa, whose father Dominic Iorfa Sr. played for Nigeria in the 1995 King Fahd Cup, faces the expiration of his current contract at the end of next month. If he does not sign the new deal, he will leave the Owls as a free agent.

Iorfa started his career at Wolverhampton Wanderers and moved to Sheffield Wednesday in January 2019. He had loan spells with Ipswich Town and Shrewsbury Town, making 32 appearances across all competitions. To date, the 28-year-old defender has played 165 matches for Sheffield Wednesday, contributing to ten goals.

Internationally, Iorfa has represented England at the U18, U20, and U21 levels, despite being on the radar of the Nigeria Football Federation.

Additionally, Ike Ugbo, another player once targeted by the Nigerian Federation, has returned to his parent club Troyes after scoring seven goals in nineteen games during the latter half of the recently concluded season.
