Sheffield Wednesday may have just been handed a huge potential boost in their pursuit of this Premier League man.

Sheffield Wednesday appear to be intensifying their summer transfer plans following the contract extension of manager Danny Rohl.

The German coach has signed a new three-year deal after leading the Owls to a 20th place finish in the 2023/24 Championship season.

Rohl and his recruitment team at Hillsborough have several transfer targets on their radar, including loan trio James Beadle, Ian Poveda, and Ike Ugbo.

Additionally, the Owls are reportedly interested in signing former Liverpool talent Ovie Ejaria, as well as January targets Duncan McGuire and Mika Biereth.

Biereth chose to join Austrian side Sturm Graz over Sheffield Wednesday in January, where he scored five goals and provided two assists in 15 Austrian Bundesliga appearances. He helped Sturm win the league, and the Austrian champions are keen to re-sign the Arsenal forward, competing with Sheffield Wednesday for his signature.

Sheffield Wednesday handed potential Mika Biereth boost

It was recently revealed that Arsenal was set to negotiate with Sturm Graz over a permanent move for Mika Biereth to the Austrian club this summer.

However, new reports from Austria suggest that Sturm Graz is now unlikely to re-sign Biereth due to increased interest from English clubs.

According to Kleine Zeitung, it is “unlikely” that Sturm will secure Biereth’s services again this summer because of the competition from England.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl is in need of strikers this summer, with Josh Windass out of contract and players like Lee Gregory, Ashley Fletcher, and Ike Ugbo having already left the club.

Why Does Sheffield Wednesday Like Mika Biereth?

At 21 years old, Biereth is a young and promising player. He has just had the best season of his career, having scored six goals and provided five assists for Motherwell in the first half of the 2023/24 campaign.

His value is currently high, and with Sheffield Wednesday looking to reduce the average age of their squad this summer, a move for Biereth makes a lot of sense.

Additionally, it’s noteworthy that Sheffield Wednesday continues to pursue players they were previously linked with, such as Duncan McGuire and Biereth. This shows their confidence in head of recruitment Kevin Beadell.

However, the Owls need to act quickly to secure their desired signings this summer. After appearing to be falling out of the race for Biereth, the latest reports from Austria might offer a crucial opportunity for the Owls to bring him in.

But as ever, the Owls need to strike soon if they’re to bring in the players they want to sign this summer.

And after looking like they were quickly falling out of the race for Biereth, this latest report from Austria may prove to be a lifeline for the Owls.
