Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers will have to act fast to sign January target after Clause is met

Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers will have to act fast to sign January target with two transfer bids launched

There isn’t much time to waste on signing USA international Duncan McGuire if Sheffield Wednesday wants to rekindle their interest in the January transfer window, according to The Star.

The Orlando City striker, who was the subject of a dramatic deadline day back-and-forth that saw him travel to the UK only for his last-ditch deal with Blackburn Rovers to fall through due to shoddy paperwork, remains in demand after scoring four goals in nine MLS appearances this season.

The Star understands Orlando offered McGuire a new contract on Wednesday, with’very serious’ interest coming from Belgium and Germany. Two bids are believed to have been made for the player, who has only one cap for his country and most recently played for the United States’ under-23 team in March.

According to sources, Wednesday has been following McGuire’s progress since January, but no firm decision has been made by S6 to hire him. It remains to be seen whether the Owls will make another bid to sign the forward as the club prepares for an important start to their summer transfer window.

The Owls are said to be keen on re-signing loanee Ike Ugbo, whose goals helped spearhead their ultimately successful survival campaign. Bids for McGuire began Wednesday, following Ugbo’s signing on January 11.
In a chaotic end to the winter window, Wednesday are said to have made multiple bids for the now 23-year-old both before and after Blackburn informed McGuire’s representatives that a deal had been cancelled while the forward was on a transatlantic flight to Ewood Park.

McGuire ate breakfast at a Sheffield hotel before the sale of then-Blackburn midfielder Adam Wharton to Crystal Palace allowed him to make another bid. The Nebraska-born forward was announced as a Rovers signing before the paperwork fraud was discovered.
