BREAKING NEWS:Native American group asks commanders to rename team Redskins Cannot erase history…

A Native American group has launched a campaign against the Washington Commanders, demanding that the organisation change its name to “Redskins,” the name the team adopted when it was in Boston in 1933.

The Native American Guardian Association (NAGA) has asked fans to sign a petition that is “designed to promote our history, put an end to cancel culture, and #ReclaimTheName ‘Redskins.'”

According to the group, the petition has been signed by over 80,000 people.

“We invite all Americans to stand up for the dignity of EVERY AMERICAN under assault in today’s increasingly nonsensical culture wars,” the petition reads. “This ‘LINE IN THE SAND’ moment reinforces the undeniable history of Native Americans assisting in the FOUNDING OF AMERICA, with NATIVE AMERICAN principles used by the FOUNDING FATHERS in the US Constitution – and, EVERY AMERICAN’s right to the 1st and 14th Amendments, as well as the right not to be targets of cancel culture or ESG.”

This is not a simple left-right problem for Americans; it spans the political spectrum, stretching back to our Founding Fathers.

The Native American Guardian Association (NAGA) stands up for and is fighting not only to preserve vital components of American history and the First and Fourteenth Amendments, but also for the civil liberties of ALL AMERICANS. Americans believe they are losing their rights as a result of a nasty cancel culture that cares little about their concerns or civil freedoms. It is time to embrace individuals, companies, and organisations that will stand with EVERY AMERICAN rather than battling against them. Last week, the group sent a letter to Commanders leadership, which included new team owner Josh Harris, team president Jason Wright, and head coach Ron Rivera, “formally requesting the team revitalise its relationship with the American Indian community and rightfully change their name back to ‘the Redskins.

“You simply cannot erase history and target the Native American community by removing the name ‘Redskins’ while also promoting other Constitutional rights, such as players who do not honour the American flag and kneel during our National Anthem,” the letter says in part.

Fox News Digital requested response from the Commanders, but they did not answer quickly.

Former club owner Daniel Snyder changed the team’s name from the Redskins to the Washington Football club, then the Commanders, during a summer of racial upheaval in the United States in 2020.

Snyder explained that the name had “increasingly become a distraction from our primary focus of football” and that the move was made “in the spirit of inclusivity.

The Commanders’ squad name debuted in 2022. Harris told ESPN that changing the name was not an immediate priority.

According to ESPN, a team must wait five years before it can rename. The only exception is if a new owner joins. Harris took over the team last month.
