Carlton Palmer has revealed his delight for Reading FC as Dai Yongge reached an agreement to sell the club to Chiron Sports Group.
Carlton Palmer has predicted a “brighter future” for Reading following the agreement for the Swiss company Chiron Sports Group to purchase the League One club from Dai Yongge.
The Royals have faced significant off-field issues, including delays in paying players’ wages and problems with HMRC over payments. These challenges have led to multiple points deductions in recent years, contributing to their relegation to the Championship.

Reading FC Takeover Latest
In the bigger picture, there is a sentiment that Reading cannot progress until a takeover is completed, with Dai Yongge having claimed for months that he is open to selling the club.
There was positive news in March when it was announced that Chiron Sports Group had entered a period of exclusivity. Further development came when Football Insider reported that an agreement has now been reached.

Carlton Palmer on Reading FC Takeover News
Speaking to FLW, ex-England international Carlton Palmer emphasized the importance of finalizing the takeover, suggesting that it could enable Reading to start aiming for promotion by providing Ruben Selles with the necessary support for new signings.
“This is fantastic news for Reading Football Club and the supporters. It has been a terrible time under Yongge, with missed payments, unpaid players, and point deductions. Given everything that has happened, Reading have done incredibly well to stay in the league,” Palmer said.
“They finished 17th in League One, now hopefully there will be some investment into the club, and you would like to think that after all the problems, if they’re run properly, and they’re giving financial backing, they could make a charge to get promotion next season, or at least to be in the running for the play-offs.
“It’s great news for the players, the fans, and let’s hope they have a brighter future. It’s all looking good, and the quicker this gets done, the better.”
Reading FC need to kick-on
The past few years have been incredibly tough for Reading, with moments when it felt like there was no hope. The fans deserve credit for their persistence in protesting the regime and pushing for change.
Now, it seems the end of Yongge’s reign could be in sight, but the fans won’t get carried away until everything is signed, as they’ve been in a similar position before.
So, hopefully they can get the good news they want, and, as Palmer says, it will allow them to look forward with optimism and excitement, instead of the dread and fear that has engulfed many of the fans in the past 18 months or so.
