“Trouble Brewing”: Graham Spiers calls for firing ahead of the pivotal Rangers vs. Aberdeen championship game

Graham Spiers has hinted that there is “trouble brewing at Pittodrie” and that Barry Robson would lose his job before facing Rangers in the Viaplay Cup final.

On December 6, the writer responded on Twitter following Aberdeen’s 1-0 loss to Kilmarnock at home due to a stoppage time winner, which dropped them to second place in the SPFL.

Robson might not get the chance for a rematch, just as Jack Ross did not have one in the lead-up to the final two years ago at Hibs, but the Hampden final is less than two weeks away, and the Dandies only managed to hold the Light Blues to a 1-1 draw two games ago.

“Aberdeen go second bottom of the Premiership,” wrote Spiers. Barry Robson is currently under extreme strain. In eleven days, at Hampden, will he get to lead Aberdeen to the League Cup Final?

In 2021, Jack Ross didn’t play for the Hibs. There is unrest at Pittodrie.

Unrest

Rangers will be affected by the possibility of a management change in one way or another, but it is impossible to predict how until that day comes.

Although it’s common knowledge that Philippe Clement and his team would have an easier time winning because of Aberdeen’s issues, a one-off final in such circumstances would even spark enthusiasm.

Particularly after the uproar surrounding Kris Boyd’s assertion that the Dons always give it their all against the Gers prior to the league tie at Pittodrie, where they duly recovered from a 6-0 thrashing at the hands of Celtic to secure a draw.

Rangers

Should Robson be fired prior to the match, his current team will be much more vulnerable if they can’t muster the previous boss bounce in addition to their added derby incentive.

Since many of the people involved have changed, the landscape at Ibrox is eerily identical to how it was a year ago, thus Clement will need to win this trophy to distinguish himself from Michael Beale last year.

Therefore, he must make sure that his players are entirely concentrated on their own game and do not allow Aberdeen’s dysfunction to cause them to lose focus.

The challenge of winning a first trophy in two seasons has presented many obstacles at Ibrox, and following two league games in which the generally poor Dons were only just able to escape with a point, a significant improvement is required for the cup final.
