The most valuable player asset for Rangers was identified in the club’s most recent market value report, which was published on Transfermarkt in December.

The Rangers’ summertime transfer activity has been the subject of much discussion. After just a few weeks of the 2023–24 season under Michael Beale, supporters realized that the squad’s lackluster recruiting made it unlikely that they would win a championship.

How circumstances have evolved. The current group of first-team talents has undergone unbelievable transformation under new manager Philippe Clement, and he has a Viaplay Cup winner’s medal to show for it.

In his 15 games without a loss, Clement has given players like John Lundstram and Cyriel Dessers new life. Under the Belgian, young player Ross McCausland also made his debut, while Abdullah Sima has maintained his incredible scoring streak.

And that implies that Transfermarkt has rewarded the latter two, with both seeing a £1 million gain in market value. The Rangers’ most useful squad member has, however, come as a bit of a surprise amid those highlights.

Todd Cantwell tied for first place.

It was previously reported that Todd Cantwell was the Ibrox giants’ single most profitable player asset from the beginning of the season until December.

Now, the Englishman is happily seated at the summit with fellow midfielder Nicolas Raskin. Currently valued at an incredible £8 million by Transfermarkt, the all-action Belgian is an incredible value for a player who joined for an initial £1.3 million in January 2023.

In the most recent update, his worth increased by £500k while Todd Cantwell’s decreased by £1 million. But considering that Raskin has been hurt since the end of October, it could come as a shock.

With an ankle problem, he was carted off the field against Hearts. At the beginning of December, he experienced another setback, and Clement lamented his midfielder’s recuperation.

On the Rangers market value chart, Cantwell and Jose Cifuentes are just behind Nicolas Raskin, although Raskin has seen a spike in value.

Rangers’ whole team’s market worth was disclosed.

The 2021–2022 season, which of course included the unforgettable run to the Europa League Final, saw the market worth of Rangers’ roster reach a peak of little under £150 million.

But since then, that total worth has tragically dropped—two management firings later. According to the most recent Transfermarkt December report, the Govan giants’ whole roster is valued at just over €100 million, or £86.6 million, if you prefer.

Captain James Tavernier, midfielder John Lundstram, and central defender Connor Goldson have all witnessed a decline in value despite their amazing run of play.

Age will undoubtedly play a role in those reductions, but considering what the three players and many others in Clement’s team have recently brought to Rangers, it does seem unfair.
