Steven Gerrard plots double Rangers transfer raid as he targets two rangers players

In an ambitious summer double raid, Gerrard wants both Goldson and Tavernier.

In the Saudi Pro League for the upcoming season, Steven Gerrard has made the move to join forces with James Tavernier, the captain of the Rangers.

Additionally, it’s thought that the former Ibrox manager is keeping a careful eye on Connor Goldson’s circumstances as he considers making a summer double swoop on his former team. According to Record Sport, there has been renewed conjecture in recent weeks connecting Tavernier with his former manager, which dates back nearly a year to Gerrard’s unexpected appointment at Al-Ettifaq.

The 32-year-old’s contract may be finalized on Wednesday, according to several media outlets in the Persian Gulf state. The Scottish domestic season is set to culminate on May 25 at Hampden when the Old Firm square off in the Scottish Cup Final. Although Goldson’s name was omitted from those early reports, it is believed that Gerrard is eager to get back together with the man he enticed to the north from Brighton six years ago in order to partner with Tavernier on the right side of his Rangers back four and win a title.

And now that they have decided to move forward with a bid for Tavernier, the Scouser still has the ability to persuade his team’s affluent owners to submit an offer for the 31-year-old central defender. Slaati, a media outlet based in Riyadh, disclosed that Gerrard had made a “recommendation” to target Tavernier to the club’s upper management. It went on to say that despite Gerrard’s unlucky start to his first season in Saudi Arabia, Al-Ettifaq’s wealthy owners have ‘agreed’ to formally make an offer.

Despite a number of high-profile additions, the team is lagging in seventh place in the standings, so Gerrard is preparing for yet another significant overhaul. Additionally, it appears they are willing to support the former Liverpool player’s most recent proposal for the influx of new players financially after already agreeing to grant him a massive contract extension through 2027.

With two years remaining on their Rangers contracts, Tavernier and Goldson are two of the team’s top earners under Philippe Clement. It is thought that by agreeing to allow them to profit from the interest from the Middle East, the Belgian manager could free up about £70,000 per week in wages ahead of his own dealings in the summer transfer market.

However, the players would have a comparative advantage in the oil-rich state, and Gerrard has already been pampered with enough money to sign players like Demarai Gray, Gini Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson, Jack Hendry, and Moussa Dembele.
