The Scottish publication reported on Sunday (17 December) that the Whitecaps are seeking a right-back and are big fans of Devine.
Academy starlet Devine signed a new deal at Ibrox last year to keep him under contract until 2025.
However, he has played just once this season – in the opening-round Viaplay Cup win over Morton – and may be tempted by a move away.
Loan exit makes sense
Devine’s big problem is that the man he needs to oust is captain James Tavernier, who quite simply starts when available.
The 20-year-old is capable of playing on the opposite flank, where he featured fairly regularly under Michael Beale at one point, but that has not been the case this term.
Instead, Devine is having to play a watching role at best, even when the Gers faced a crisis of sorts at left-back during a recent Europa League tie with Sparta Prague.
Devine is still very young and patience should therefore be pleaded, although at the same time he just simply wants to play matches.
The Gers will not want to lose Devine permanently, so it may well be that a loan exit is sanctioned in January.
Ultimately, Tavernier will not be around at Ibrox forever and the Gers need to have one eye on the future. In that regard, it may be wise to keep Devine on the books.
