Rangers hearing tomorrow: Paperwork submitted to SFA – Chris Jack

Rangers have appealed the red card shown to Jose Cifuentes against Dundee in the hope the midfielder will be available for the Viaplay Cup final with Aberdeen, according to Chris Jack.

Cifuentes was sent off late in the first half of Saturday’s (9 December) 3-1 win at Ibrox for an alleged stamp on Dundee forward Amadou Bakayoko.

That dismissal rules the Ecuador international out of next week’s showdown with Aberdeen at Hampden Park, but he may yet be given a reprieve as an appeal hearing is set for Tuesday (12 December)Rangers have appealed the red card shown to Jose Cifuentes against Dundee on Saturday. Rangers Review reporter Jack posted on his personal Twitter page [11 December]: “Rangers have appealed the red card shown to Jose Cifuentes against Dundee on Saturday. Appeal hearing set for Tuesday.”

Quick turnaround

There is certainly no harm in Rangers appealing this decision and thankfully we will know whether Cifuentes will be available or not very soon.

It is far from an ideal situation for Philippe Clement, as he is already without Nico Raskin, Ryan Jack and makeshift holding midfielder Tom Lawrence.

If there was one position the Belgian could have done with no further disruption, it was in the engine room.

Rangers

Former Rangers striker Kenny Miller slammed the decision to send off Cifuentes, and it may well be that the SFA chiefs see sense when it comes to reviewing the decision.

Kevin Clancy initially showed Cifuentes a yellow, but that was upgraded following a VAR check in a big talking point.

It will be a case of putting square pegs in round holes if the midfielder’s appeal is unsuccessful, but hopefully it will not come to that.
