Pundit not surprised ‘Quality Kid’ at Rangers won’t be seen again this season

Cole McKinnon isn’t anticipated to have many opportunities this season to work with Philippe Clement

Derek Ferguson is not shocked that Philippe Clement has started Cole McKinnon in the Rangers’ starting lineup this season.

Having not been seen in the senior squad since the previous season, the 21-year-old made unexpected back-to-back substitute appearances for the Light Blues away at Benfica and Hibs in the Europa League and Scottish Cup, respectively, last month while the Belgian was coping with the most recent serious injury crisis.

Despite the young player’s potential, former Ibrox midfielder Ferguson doesn’t think he will see much more from him this season because there is too much talent in the squad ahead of him at his position.

He exclusively told Ibrox News, “I’m not surprised that he’s been in the squad because he’s got that quality.”

However, I’m not sure about first-team action. In my opinion, he has a little bit too much quality in front of him.

However, it keeps the other guys on their toes because they have to continue giving their best, so it’s nice to have the kids breathing down their necks.

“He’s a great kid with a bright future in the game, but I understand why some of his first-team play has been cut back.”

Ibrox talent pipeline blocked for Rangers players?
Players were leaving like crazy at the time of McKinnon’s breakthrough under Clement, but whoever took over appeared to be able to play brilliantly.
In recent weeks, the situation has deteriorated as Celtic has regained the lead in the championship race and results have declined.

Rangers midfielder Mohamed Diomande celebrates scoring v Hearts

Cole McKinnon’s chances with the Rangers will be diminished by Mohamed Diomande’s injury return.

Tom Lawrence and John Lundstram have both performed poorly in recent weeks, so some fans may be hoping that McKinnon or another alternative gets another chance.

With two trophies still up for grabs, it would be surprising if Clement turned to junior options once more until the summer. However, tremendously encouraging performances from players like Todd Cantwell and Mohamed Diomande helped address the slide in the much-needed win over Hearts.

In other Rangers news, after a Light Blues incident, a Sky Sports pundit and a former Premier League referee got into an argument over how disgusted they were with Scottish officials.
