Philippe Clement is sure that his desire to play for the Rangers will be evident.
Although Philippe Clement is fully aware that the Rangers will not be satisfied with his performance and outcome on Thursday against Aris Limassol, he is optimistic that his drive will benefit the team as they attempt to return to winning ways.
The Ibrox club had the opportunity to secure their spot in the Europa League knockout stage on Thursday, but they faltered to a 1-1 draw with their Cypriot opponents. As a result, qualification will be determined in the group’s last encounter against Real Betis.
Despite the fact that the tie guaranteed Rangers a place in the UEFA Conference League following Christmas, Clement was not happy with the result.
“We dominated the game, which was a big difference from the game in Limassol,” he clarified. Thus, don’t undervalue Aris. Naturally, though, we desired victory.
“We spent a lot of time in their box, but our final pass lacked precision. Although falling behind wasn’t a desirable scenario, there was a nice response later.
“After dominating, we didn’t treat ourselves, but I am aware of our circumstances. Athletes that are injured are absent. Ryan Jack and Nico Raskin, two key players in the midfield and up front, are absent.
“As a result, certain players, like Matondo, who isn’t playing at his peak right now, are recovering from injuries. To ensure that everyone performs at their highest level, we must work hard.
After trailing Aberdeen at Pittodrie the previous week, Rangers lost for the second straight game and were jeered off the field by the crowd on Thursday.
Though recent results have not gone as planned, Clement understands the displeasure and is certain that his team is headed in the right direction.
“I know everyone is really ambitious here,” he said. However, I don’t believe that any other stadium patron is as driven as I am.
Thus, I can appreciate their desire to succeed. We’ll put in a lot of effort because we also want to win. This won’t be an easy route to travel. The road will have hiccups.
But I’m looking for a team that never gives up on getting things done. On Thursday night, in a European match, we failed to execute with the accuracy that would have had a greater impact than the Scottish league.
“It’s common for players to miss a little bit of that while they are recovering from injuries. I had less ability to make changes in the second half as a result of the early alteration. However, we gained control once the substitution was made.
On Thursday, Clement decided to replace midfielder Todd Cantwell after just 35 minutes due to the Englishman’s unimpressive performance.
Though Cantwell’s replacement, Ross McCausland, ended up scoring the vital equalizer, the decision proved to be the right one despite some jeers.
“It’s unusual but the team needed more width and depth on the right side of the pitch,” Clement said in response to questions about his choice. It wasn’t our intention or style of play to come in with the ball.
Additionally, I sensed that Todd wasn’t acting normally. You can wait for another ten minutes, but for what? To lose an additional ten minutes?
“I’m confident that he will respond favorably to it going forward. He has already performed admirably for me on the right side, even if it is not his ideal or favored position.
But that’s the reality given the injuries and absence of the players. He’s performed admirably for the team, and I don’t have many options on that end.
“It was not as good on Thursday, but Sunday is a new game.”
Although we coached to have more depth there, it wasn’t occurring, even if I haven’t done it much as a coach.
We had someone on the bench who could produce it in Ross. Even though he was just getting started, he demonstrated the skills we needed to win the game by scoring the goal.
It doesn’t matter if players make poor passes or fail to take an action; it doesn’t matter to me.
However, they must play in the appropriate positions. If not, we are not excellent and we don’t play football together.
Rangers’ performance on Thursday was bad on all fronts, but the Ibrox crowd had special criticism for Sam Lammers and Jose Cifuentes.
“I’m not going to speak about individual players – I’ll do that in the dressing-room like I always do,” Clement stated, declining to comment on the duo’s respective performances.
It’s a sport played in teams. We didn’t draw with Aris due to a small number of participants.
Rangers now hope to get back to winning ways on Sunday as they host St Mirren to Ibrox. When asked about the lessons the team has learned from its last two games, Clement replied, “We conceded two goals that were unnecessary (against Aberdeen and Aris).”
We also made things challenging for ourselves. In those actions, we must become more deft.
However, the gang is exerting a lot of effort. And I’m confident that we’ll improve in a few weeks or months. It’s an ordinary shift
