‘Nothing happening’: Striker set to miss out on Rangers move after admitting Ibrox ‘interest’

Kevin van Veen’s rumored return to the Scottish Premiership appears improbable at this point, according to Groningen coach Dirk Lukkien, who maintains that ‘nothing is happening’ about the Rangers target.

It didn’t take long for the clamor to begin when Kevin van Veen revealed Rangers’ interest, acknowledging that the Glasgow giants had attempted to sign him prior to his departure from Motherwell for Groningen last summer.

Surely there was room at Ibrox for a man who scored 29 goals for ‘Well in 2022–2023 with Danilo battling injuries and Cyriel Dessers yet to impress? In any case, that’s what former Scotland international James McFadden definitely believed.

A few weeks ago, Van Veen gave an update on his circumstances and stated that the Glasgow blue side was “still interested” in him (Daily Record). However, any dreams the seasoned forward may have had to return to familiar surroundings appear certain to be dashed as the window closes in just over a day.

Lukkien said to ESPN, “As a club, we have said that we would like to think about a solution.” “But as of yet, nothing is happening.”

Van Veen returned after a stint back in Scotland during the birth of his child and began training with Groningen’s reserves. He hasn’t played for the Eerste Divisie team since November.

Still, Rangers seem to be putting younger, more promising players first after hiring Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen. Players with enormous potential for resale. The equally legendary Oscar Cortes of Lens and Fluminense left-back Jefte is expected to join Fabio Silva and Mohamed Diomande at Ibrox.

This year’s 33-year-old Van Veen is nothing like the long-term, buy-low-sell-high player the Rangers are trying to sign.

The need for another center-forward in Clement’s team has decreased as the once-maligned Dessers has unexpectedly found his scoring touch.

Lukkien continues, “We will just try to get him physically ready,” outlining his strategy for getting Van Veen back in shape and productive. “At this point, he is regaining his fitness.

Kevin hasn’t been able to work out with a group in a long time. He is currently working hard to get back into shape, and things are going very well.
