Not seen since September Philippe Clement hints at striker chance in Kemar Roofe Kilmarnock absence

Right now, every Rangers game is important, but few journeys in the SPFL are more difficult than going to Rugby Park to see Kilmarnock.

Michael Beale overanalyzed the first game by trying to counter their physicality rather than focusing on his own team, but Philippe Clement, the current manager of the Gers, won’t be as preoccupied.

He will have to make due without the option of starting Kemar Roofe, who just returned to the Rangers, off the bench. The manager has made hints that this may give another player in the squad a chance to play against Kilmarnock.

Rangers manager will start young players against Kilmarnock

Given his well-known problems, it seems likely that Roofe will skip the short trip to Ayrshire, as evidenced by his 45-minute stint for the B squad on Monday.

Notably, Killie is rumored to be getting rid of the artificial surface shortly. Until then, though, a 31-year-old with a five-year history of calf issues is unlikely to be risked on such a pitch.

Prior to the match, Philippe Clement stated that Roofe’s absence will allow a different member of the Rangers roster to make an impression against Kilmarnock:

The surface is the sole reason I am unable to include Kemar Roofe in the selection once more.

Thus, given his injuries and the severity of them, my medical staff is clearly saying that it is too dangerous. Playing on that type of pitch is disadvantageous in that sense.

However, we must adjust once more, and another player has an opportunity.

Sadly, there aren’t any clear-cut forward candidates to take up the void left by someone who regularly achieves a high goals per minute ratio.

Clement isn’t afraid to use young players rather than play someone out of position, as we’ve seen from him in the past.

Monaco appoint Philippe Clement as coach

Before sustaining a hamstring injury that required surgery, Zak Lovelace made an impression. However, now that he is healthy again, he is the kind of player who can have an impact.

Additionally, Lovelace provides a core solution that neither Ross McCausland nor Scott Wright can.

Rangers supporters would be happy to see Lovelace back in the team for the match against Kilmarnock, even though Cyriel Dessers and Fabio Silva will be expected to lead the line in Roofe’s absence.

Kilmarnock vs. Rangers injury report

The Rangers’ locker room isn’t as packed right now as it was earlier in the season. There are five players who are undoubtedly out of the Kilmarnock match, but the majority of these are long-term injuries.

Since Ryan Jack is not injured, he is not listed on the following list. He might not make the matchday squad, though, as Clement continues to manage his recuperation.

Rabbi Matondo’s most recent injury

Currently out of commission owing to a minor muscle ailment is Rabbi Matondo. The winger hasn’t been seen since the issue was discovered during the victory against Ross County at Ibrox on February 14.

Since then, Clement hasn’t provided an update on Matondo, so it’s quite likely that the Welshman will miss the Kilmarnock match.

Latest injury to Abdallah Sima

Allah Sima, a winger for Rangers, was playing well before suffering a catastrophic thigh injury against Senegal at the 2023 AFCON.

When Gers defeated Dumbarton in the Scottish Cup on January 20, that heartbreaking news was verified, and not much has been said about his development since.

Sima had thigh surgery, and Clement did mention at the end of January that he will miss “two to three months” of play.

Kieran Dowell’s latest injury

Although Kieran Dowell has demonstrated that he can be a productive player for Rangers, the midfielder has had difficulty staying healthy this year.

The former Norwich City player hasn’t been seen since his last Gers game against Kilmarnock on January 2. This is due to an injury he sustained while working out at La Manga with the Rangers during the mid-season winter break.

After a successful surgery, he was sidelined for two months and is currently recuperating.

recent injury to Alex Lowry

After spending time on loan at Hearts, Alex Lowry returned to Rangers in the January transfer window. Regretfully, he returned to the Rangers Training Centre with what appeared to be a back injury.

After being sidelined for “six to eight weeks” at the end of January, the 20-year-old playmaker might not have to wait long to be selected again.
