A NEW TUNNEL develops in the contract negotiations between Lawrence Shankland Hearts and the Rangers amid January connections.

Despite rumors of a January move to Rangers, Hearts’ new contract offer won’t be enough to convince Lawrence Shankland to stay at Tynecastle, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper revealed on its website on Friday, January 20, that the 28-year-old’s new deal only offers a little pay boost, despite his stellar play early in the Scottish Premiership season.

Shankland is prepared to reject this most recent offer, so if Hearts wish to lock down their highly sought-after captain for longer, they will need to “up the ante” and give a higher salary in an attempt to persuade the Scotland international to put pen to paper.

In an attempt to make up for the absence of firepower in his squad, Philippe Clement has been linked to a January move to Ibrox, but Hearts have claimed thus far that they have not received any bids for the 28-year-old this month.

The fact that Shankland wants to join the Rangers this month is becoming more and more obvious. The 28-year-old has expressed a desire to transfer to Ibrox in the past, and his most recent acts seem to support that theory.

Rangers should be able to outspend Hearts monetarily, particularly in regards to wage expectations, therefore the Light Blues should have no trouble matching or surpassing Shankland’s offer in some way.

The Gers should have no trouble negotiating personal terms with their new frontman if they want to match Hearts’ asking price—which, should the Scottish international be nearing the end of his contract, is likely to be lower.

With any luck, the fresh information will prompt the Gers’ recruitment team to take action, allowing them to take a step toward the goal of signing a much-needed new number nine in January.
