Long-term injured player expected
They stated, “Craig Gordon is expected to make a comeback to Hearts’ matchday squad for their game against Rangers tonight.”
The Scotland international may make a comeback to the squad following an almost one-year absence as he heals from two broken legs.
Gordon’s horrific injury appeared to have the potential to ruin his career, but the 40-year-old has battled back to full health.
Is it better or worse?
Either way Rangers supporters choose to interpret this, it shouldn’t significantly alter their expectations going into the game.
Although their number two has ultimately been their goalie, hearts have been strong this season, and our matches against them have been difficult.
However, Rangers should consider it a plus because Gordon is back for a big game and they have their key guy back, even if he hasn’t played in a year and will undoubtedly be nervous.
The squad has to test him early and quickly if he is selected to start by peppering him with shots. Even if he is perfectly fit, match rust is a genuine issue, therefore he won’t be at his best.
While it is commendable that he has bounced back from such a devastating injury, the Gers need to focus on winning tonight and not let emotion get in the way of securing all three points.
