I’M GIVING UP The Rangers vs. Aberdeen debate is discussed live on air by Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist.

With two minutes remaining in the Scottish Premiership, the former Chelsea player was sent off as the Gers looked to seal the win and draw level on points with Old Firm rivals Celtic.

Brazil was incensed over the decision, but McCoist could only chuckle at the circumstances, highlighting the irony of the contentious time at Ibrox.

McCoist remarked in real time on talkSPORT on Wednesday, February 7, at 6:11 a.m., “Every week, you and I both complain about the referees going over to VAR and some of them not having the conviction to keep the same decisions.”

Oh, I’m done,” Brazil answered.

McCoist continued in hysterics, saying, “Well, the referee did it last night, and he was wrong.” You really couldn’t make it up.

“Dujon Sterling attempts a tackle, but he arrives a little late and trips. It’s a yellow all day when he catches the guy on the toe. In fairness to him, the VAR informs him that the referee was a little too harsh and sends him out.

“The referee reviews the ruling, moves over, and dismisses him nevertheless. They’re still making mistakes even when they have the opportunity to correct themselves.

Poor choices made at Ibrox

Everyone who witnessed the game would understand that McCoist is correct. Given that Sterling didn’t constitute a threat to the Aberdeen player and had no malicious intent, he shouldn’t have been sent out for the unintentional challenge.

While there is a need for referees to be more tough, most fans simply want officials to be consistent during games. Rangers should appeal the “harsh” ruling since it should be a straightforward one. They are likely to do so.

There was a lot of controversy surrounding the match against Aberdeen; in the first half, Connor Goldson stopped a shot during a scramble in the box, prompting calls for the visitors to be given a penalty.

After beating Aberdeen, Rangers and Celtic are separated by just one goal.Considering that he moved from full-back to midfield this season, Sterling has excelled under Philippe Clement. More than the late tackle itself, it was perhaps Jack McKenzie’s response to the challenge that convinced the referee to call it.

Philippe Clement: "We could have scored more than one goal"

There’s no disputing that it was a clear foul, possibly even deserving of a yellow card. However, the red card was the incorrect call, and referee Don Robertson even had an opportunity to correct his error. He declined to do so, which increased the pressure on Rangers in the game’s final minutes.

In other Rangers news, the team’s January decision may result in a summertime pay increase.
