“I’ll be honest,” Ferguson said, shocked at what Rangers manager Clement had told him.

Barry Ferguson is confident Rangers are in good hands for the long term after speaking personally with Philippe Clement in Spain last week.

During the team’s warm-weather training camp in La Manga, the former Gers midfielder ran into Clement.

Since taking over for Michael Beale in the dugout at Ibrox, Clement has performed admirably, losing just one of his 18 games in charge.

Rangers

Ferguson wrote, “Trust me when I say it, this guy really gets what Rangers are all about,” in his Daily Record column on January 19.

And there isn’t a greater praise I could give him. He’s a straightforward man who avoids flowery language and grandiose words.

He’s just a regular football guy who knows what it takes to be the club’s manager and the responsibilities that go along with it.

Above all, he understands that being a winner is essential to his success as the Rangers manager. To be honest, I don’t become wowed easily.

“However, as I was leaving, I thought to myself, ‘That’s one impressive individual – this guy really does get it!'”

Additionally, I’ve had a lot of encounters with management. Some positive. Others, not so much. So when I see one, I know it’s a proper one.

“He is entirely aware of the expectations, demands, and club. I also got the impression that my former club is in very capable hands.

Outstanding figure

Clement walks the walk as well as talking the talk. Upon assuming leadership, he promptly detailed his goals for the Rangers and has remained true to his word.

Rangers

Since his arrival in October, Rangers have been a totally different team, but it’s concerning that the appointment was made a little bit too late.

Despite the success the Gers have had in the league, there remains work to be done, as evidenced by their most recent defeat to Celtic, the only one under Clement’s leadership.

Let’s hope that the players are fresh and ready to go when they return after a brief vacation and some training in Spain.

Not to brag, but as the Gers attempt to add to the trophy they have already won this season, every game is now truly as important as the previous.
