Ibrox View: Fabrizio Romano confirms transfer; too late for Rangers to sign PL defender

Josh Doig was 'never' Rangers transfer target as Fabrizio Romano provides latest on Marseille talks - Football Scotland

Rangers are going very strong in all competitions under manager Philippe Clement, but perhaps there is still room for improvement.

And only the man in the dugout can make that call, although he is rapidly running out of time if he wants to strengthen his squad.

Only a few days of the January transfer window remain, in what is Clement’s first chance to buy and sell players at Ibrox.

But one player who certainly won’t be moving to the Glasgow outfit this month is Nottingham Forest defender Jonathan Panzo.

The centre-back was on the verge of a loan switch to Ibrox last summer before the move collapsed, according to Sunday Mirror journalist Darren Witcoop (3 August).

Panzo instead moved to Cardiff City on a temporary deal, but is on the move yet again after making just five appearances for the Bluebirds.

As per Fabrizio Romano (28 January), the 23-year-old has now agreed to join Standard Liege for the remainder of the season.

And that may just come as a big blow to the Gers, along with West Brom and Coventry City, who Witcoop credited with a serious interest last summer.

Despite the interest closer to home in England and Scotland, it is Belgian club Standard Liege who have won the race for his signature.

Perhaps the deal is no real surprise, with Panzo no stranger to moving abroad, having played for the likes of Dijon and Monaco in France and Cercle Brugge in Belgium. It remains to be seen exactly what will happen at Ibrox in the coming days, with some movement perhaps taking place in both directions before the deadline.
