Kris Boyd insists Philippe Clement made the right call to sub Todd Cantwell in the first-half against Aris Limassol.

But the Rangers legend reckons the Ibrox boss could have withdrawn ANY of his misfiring frontmen after another faltering display. Gers could only muster a point against bottom seeds Aris at home as they missed the chance to leapfrog Real Betis at the top of Group C. It leaves their hopes of progressing into the Europa League knockouts firmly in the balance ahead of the final game away in Seville.

The Light Blues crowd vented their frustrations at full-time as a chorus of boos rung round the stadium, and Clement confessed post-match that their jeers were heard loud and clear. And while Cantwell may have taken the huff after being subbed just 35 minutes into the game, Boyd warned four of Michael Beale’s other signings that they are fighting for their futures at the club.

He told The Scottish Sun: “Phillipe Clement called it RIGHT when he hooked Todd Cantwell for Ross McCausland at Ibrox on Thursday night. After all, McCausland went on to score the equaliser which spared some of Rangers’ blushes against Aris Limassol.

“Where Cantwell has every right to feel wronged, though, is that Clement could have replaced ANY of his front players in that miserable first half. And some others, too. When you look at Gers’ overall performance, it was nowhere near the standard required.

“It reminded you that Rangers have spent an absolute fortune on players who have made zero impact. None of the front men stuck out for the right reasons – only the wrong ones.

“Sam Lammers just won’t do for me – and nobody will convince me he can turn things round at Ibrox. Just listen to the sarcastic cheers from Gers fans when he was eventually hauled off on Thursday.

“There’s no doubt Cyriel Dessers’ days at the club are already numbered, too. Rangers needed a goal at Pittodrie and he was nowhere to be seen. They needed a goal against Aris and he was nowhere to be seen again. I just can’t see where he possibly could feature for them going forward.

“Abdallah Sima earned a lot of praise during that run of goals in the autumn. But he hasn’t scored in his last eight games and doesn’t even look like he’s going to. Yes, he’s had off-field issues to deal with, including the birth of a child. He’s not been the worst of the summer signings – but he does still need to improve.

“The same can be said for Jose Cifuentes in the middle of the park. He’s struggling to get to the pace of the Scottish game at a time when Rangers have been guilty of too much sloppiness and slackness. It’s a big worry. He needs to be better.

“Michael Beale claimed he was a player to take Rangers to another level. A game-changer. But you look at his displays so far and wonder what the hell Beale was on about.”
