After winning the Viaplay Cup on Sunday afternoon, former teammate David De Gea sent a message to Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland.
After leading Rangers to victory over Aberdeen in the Viaplay Cup final on Sunday afternoon, Philippe Clement took home his first trophy.
Before James Tavernier struck with about 15 minutes remaining, Rangers was having difficulty scoring the first goal when they traveled to Hampden Park to play Aberdeen.
After Rangers defeated them 1-0, Tavernier scored a cross from Borna Barisic to set off wild celebrations and ultimately result in a trophy lift.
Just two months after coming to Ibrox, Clement has already won silverware in his role as Rangers manager.
On Instagram, Jack Butland rejoices at the Rangers’ victory.
The Rangers players will have continued to party well into Sunday night, and maybe into today morning.
Several people, including goalie Jack Butland, have sent greetings to their followers on Instagram.
Butland posted a photo of himself hoisting the trophy with the caption, “What a club,” in celebration of Rangers’ 28th Scottish League Cup victory.
Even David De Gea, Butland’s colleague at Manchester United during the latter part of the previous campaign, responded.
De Gea praised the Rangers goalie by saying “big dog,” relishing in his greatest moment since finalizing his summer relocation to Ibrox.
De Gea left United during the summer and is still without a club, but he enjoys Butland’s success and follows his progress.
However, Butland honors James Tavernier
After the game, Butland talked to Viaplay Sports about one of his best weeks to date in his career.
On Thursday, Rangers defeated Real Betis 3-2 to advance in the Europa League and go on to win the Viaplay Cup.
Butland called the situation “unreal” and gave his teammates credit for not letting their victory over Betis get to them complacent.
Butland also said that Tavernier’s game-winning goal freed Rangers from jail and hailed him for his second-half striker that sealed the trophy.
Butland declared, “I’m overwhelmed, honestly. This has been one of my best football weeks, end to end.” It hasn’t felt real. We’ve already faced strong opposition from these guys this year, and the boys have persevered. It would have been simple to become weary, complacent, or anything else after Thursday. It wasn’t as simple as we would have liked, but it was a challenging game nonetheless. Naturally, they put up a fight and made things very difficult for us.
“The captain wins us games, he gets us out of jail, and he’s won us a trophy. I’m really grateful to him for everything,” he continued.
