Rangers has announced that they are extremely unhappy with the decision to not give their supporters any tickets for the Glasgow Derby match at Celtic Park.
This announcement is made in spite of Rangers’ success in an SPFL Board Sub-Committee case. The committee found The Hoops’ refusal to give any tickets to their opponents to be irrational and sided with Rangers.
“Despite winning a case put to an SPFL Board Sub-Committee, Rangers FC, with extreme disappointment, will not have any supporters present at Parkhead for the Old Firm match on December 30,” the team announced in a statement posted on Tuesday [STV].
“The Sub-Committee concurred with Rangers that it was inappropriate for Celtic FC to refuse to give any tickets to Rangers supporters.
But Celtic isn’t backing down from their choice. They will not let Rangers supporters to attend the derby at Celtic Park until major safety changes are implemented at Ibrox Stadium for its visiting supporters. Celtic’s firm attitude emphasizes the continuous worries about away fans’ safety during these high-stress games.
A source at Celtic Park informed CeltsAreHere that Rangers had discussed installing safety netting around the away fans’ area at Ibrox, which is a recognition of the presence of current safety concerns. The vitality and spirit that are usually associated with Glasgow derbies are diminished when there aren’t many away supporters present during these important games.
This problem began when the initial Ibrox allotment for Celtic supporters was significantly lowered, preventing thousands of followers of The Bhoys from attending the derby.
It appears that maintaining composure and prioritizing fan safety over all other considerations will be necessary to return the derby to a more “normal” environment with sizable away fan bases from both sides.
Unfortunately, the derby that takes place at Parkhead on December 30th will be just another episode in this continuous story, with Rangers supporters conspicuously missing.
