He has had a difficult time adjusting to life in the dugout, winning just three of his first eight games in all competitions. His goal is to lead the Black Cats into the Premier League for the first time since 2017.

The young Norwegian player has agreed to a four and a half year contract with the North East club, and it is claimed that the Black Cats have agreed to pay a cost of approximately £2 million for him.

Hjelde stated on the Sunderland website that he was happy with his move and that he was appreciative of the chance. After talking to my father and seeing the size and support of the club, I felt it was a decision I couldn’t refuse.

Hjelde joined Celtic as a professional player for the first time in 2019 and was called up to the first team in 2020.

During an 11-game loan with Ross County, he made an impression that caught Leeds United’s interest in 2021. Hjelde was signed by the Yorkshire giants for an undisclosed sum, with a 15% sell-on clause for the Hoops.

Hjelde had trouble getting into the starting lineup at Elland Road, but during his 13-game loan at Rotherham United, he displayed enough potential to make Sunderland decide to take a chance on him. Celtic receives a transfer windfall of almost £300,000 with the sale of the Norwegian U21 international, which might be used to finance any further deals as the transfer deadline draws near.
