Brakes pulled on Rangers links to £3.8m Ligue 1 attacker – multiple journalists

Reports have put the brakes on those Rangers links to RC Lens winger Oscar Cortes – even if Ibrox interest has been labelled “real”.

In January, rumors circulated in the player’s native Colombia indicating that Rangers was very close to signing a loan-to-buy agreement for the 20-year-old Ligue 1 winger. It’s understandable that enthusiasm has grown among supporters as Rangers prepare to sign a highly-rated teenage winger who recently joined Lens from Millonarios in the summer for a transfer fee of €4.5 million (£3.8 million).

However, a few reporters in Scotland have refuted reports that an agreement is as close as first reported, once again in response to news breaking abroad.

Oscar Cortes to Rangers not as close as reported

First of all, leading Rangers fan media Heart & Hand have claimed that interest in Oscar Cortes is “real” with the club hoping to strike a deal within the next 24-48 hours.

Known to have close links to the club, the outlet will simply be relaying what they’ve been told by sources at Ibrox.

Daily Record journalist Andy Newport is another with links to Rangers and he has claimed that reports suggesting the deal is done “aren’t quite right”.

Reports that the deal is done aren’t quite right but the

Ibrox club are certainly considering a move before Thursday’s transfer deadline

This is a view echoed by Herald & Times journalist Chris Jack, who claims reports stating that Oscar Cortes is on his way to Glasgow are “wide of the mark”.

During the transfer window, Rangers have employed journalists and fan media to either confirm or refute rumors pertaining to the team.

Mostly employed to refute tales that were becoming viral in the media, with Michael Batshuayi and David Jurasek being the most prominent instances, we can now be certain that the connections to Cortes are genuine.

But, it seems like there is still a lot of work to be done on a contract as Rangers attempt to bolster their roster in January.

Ibrox transfer business ramps up

As Rangers aim to bolster their offense going into the second half of the season, Oscar Cortes is being aggressively connected to the team.

Wolves forward Fabio Silva has already joined Rangers, and Ivorian midfielder Mohamed Diomande has also joined from Danish side FC Nordsjaelland.

Additionally, the club has been heavily connected to a transfer for Brazil’s Jefferson, a left-back, and Scotland international striker Lawrence Shankland was apparently shown around over the weekend.

As January draws to an end, manager Philippe Clement has acknowledged that his team would be “busy” throughout the transfer window, with all eyes on Ibrox.

Oscar Cortes seems like a good fit for the Rangers, but we’ll have to wait and see whether a deal can be done in time to get the winger.
