When it comes to the January transfer window, Philippe Clement is adamant that he and the Rangers board are in agreement.

With their victory over Motherwell today, the Gers maintained their stellar form under the Belgian coach. Two goals from Todd Cantwell and Kielan Dowell in the first 16 minutes put them ahead to easy sailing. In front of the Old Firm rivalry the following weekend, it puts them back within two points of Celtic with a game remaining.

As the Light Blues’ manager, Clement remains unbeaten, and in the days ahead, he will have the opportunity to bolster his team during his first transfer window. He acknowledges that he won’t be sure he’s acquired any players until the contract is finalized, but he will most likely bolster his roster in January.

The manager said to BBC Scotland when asked if the Gers were near to anything: “Are we close, are we far? When a signature is made, when it is present, you are close. You’re never close before that. In my career, I’ve seen enough.

“In the coming days and weeks, we’ll find out what transpires. Myself and the board agree on what we should do. We shall see since I know that everyone is putting in a lot of effort to get it done as quickly as feasible.”

Due to a groin strain, Connor Goldson had to be substituted by John Souttar in the last minutes of the game. Ahead of games against Ross County and Celtic the following week, Clement hopes it’s not too horrible.

“Hopefully everything will work out,” he said. “Towards the end of the game, he experienced some groin pain. However, we’ll see; tomorrow, we’ll make a determination.

“I’m not sure if the players will return. Definitely not many. In a few days, we will find out. We’re monitoring the issue day by day.”#
