BBC pundit claims Sportscene helps out SFA with unseen footage of controversial Rangers v Celtic incident

Neil McCann asserts that BBC Sportscene has supported the SFA by releasing previously unreleased video of a contentious incident that occurred during Rangers’ match versus Celtic on Saturday, December 30.

The pundit described the decision not to award a penalty against Hoops right-back Alistair Johnston for a handball as a “very contentious moment” while speaking on the BBC’s Scottish football highlights show on Saturday (27:45).

McCann stated that Sportscene likely aided the SFA after Gers striker Abdallah Sima was revealed to be offside during the build-up, citing the fact that the image wasn’t presented on the live broadcast until the second half as a “big issue.”

Rangers

McCann declared, “This is a very contentious moment.”

“Everyone is talking about this moment,” anchor Jonathan Sutherland continued. “VAR examined the handball incident involving Alistair Johnston.”

McCann declared, “It’s a penalty, it should have been a penalty.” We’ll probably assist the SFA in this situation because it’s a major problem that we didn’t see in the live match until the second half. We’ll probably talk about it more in the future.

Does not make sense

The Johnston handball incident in the first half has generated a great deal of discussion because it was evident that the ball struck the defender’s arm.

The odd thing is that, according to VAR, the on-field official’s mistake wasn’t evident enough to warrant a penalty.

It appears like Sima was not in an offside position when VAR first observed it, so it’s unclear if they would have recognized it later when they watched the entire tape.

Rangers

The Gers have requested the audio from the SFA on the incident, although the most likely fallback will be that the Senegalese player was not playing properly during the build-up.

Since he knows he needs to get his Light Blues team back to winning ways in order to continue their quest for more championships this season, Philippe Clement won’t want to linger on the outcome for too long.
