Ally McCoist, a new Rangers admission, takes a “batter” jab at Celtic live on talkSPORT.

After Rangers’ Viaplay Cup victory, Ally McCoist made fun of Celtic live on TV, implying that he hoped the Hoops would be humiliated in the upcoming year.

With two games remaining against the defending champions, Philippe Clement’s Light Blues are only five points behind Brendan Rodgers’ team, having narrowed the distance between the two Glasgow teams in recent weeks.

With the Scottish title race officially back underway, McCoist has acknowledged that, despite his desire for Celtic supporters to have a great holiday season, he still believes Rangers should “batter” the Hoops come January 1.

Speaking at 6:20 p.m. on December 19 on talkSPORT “I imagine you would have a better Christmas message for kids out there that are Celtic fans Ally?” inquired Jeff Stelling.

With brisk response, McCoist said, “I hope you have a wonderful Christmas.” However, I hope we humiliate you in the coming year.

It’s safe to say that after Rangers defeated Aberdeen in the Viaplay Cup, the team’s supporters are still feeling a little more assured. The supporters of the Light Blues are starting to think seriously that they can catch up to Celtic and win the Premiership this year.

The Premiership losses to Kilmarnock and Hearts in recent weeks have proved that the Hoops are not unbeatable, and this has given Clement’s team a chance to take the lead if they win their remaining games.

All supporters will share McCoist’s desire that the Light Blues will defeat Celtic in the new year, even though the games at hand may prove to be pivotal in the quest for the championship this season. Alternatively, the Old Firm derbies may prove to be the more vital games this season.

From a Rangers standpoint, the first derby match of the season was extremely disappointing since the Gers were unable to stop Brendan Rodgers. They are hungry to win more trophies this season and will be seeking retribution now that they are managed by Clement at Ibrox.

As McCoist stated, Celtic fans should have a wonderful Christmas, but Rangers fans will be praying that the Hoops’ joyous mood is short-lived on December 30.
