Wouter Gudde, the director of Groningen, has denied the rumors that Kevin van Veen will join Rangers during the January transfer window.
The general manager of the Eerste Divisie team has stated there is “nothing true” in the links, according to Stefan Bleeker, a journalist for the Dutch network RTV Noord, who tweeted on Wednesday, December 27, following the Scottish Daily Mail’s story that the Gers were hoping to recruit the Dutch forward on Wednesday.
He went on to say that he had not heard anything about the rumors, which are based on a Scottish publication that the Dutch club is looking into selling the 32-year-old since their attempt to be promoted is failing.Van Veen doesn’t exactly fit the type of player Rangers are likely to want to bring in, therefore it seems doubtful that they would try to sign him in January.
John Bennett, the chairman of the Gers, has said unequivocally that the team should concentrate on signing younger players who they may later sell for a profit. The Dutchman will turn 33 in the summer of 2019, so there’s very little possibility they may profit from him in the future.
Though, for the time being, the forward’s goal total in Scotland does make him a desirable option. Prior to joining Groningen, the forward scored 25 goals in the SPFL for Motherwell.
Nevertheless, he hasn’t exactly been able to maintain his form in his own country this season, managing just five goals in 14 appearances, which might deter some teams from trying to sign him in January.
