Although McCrorie had a run of starts towards the end of the previous campaign, neither Michael Beale nor Philippe Clement have allowed the Scot to play a minute in the first team since Jack Butland’s summer transfer from Crystal Palace.
Butland’s decision to join the team is difficult to argue against, given he was one of the transfer business’s few clear winners in the previous window.
It is surprising that McCrorie stayed at Ibrox after signing the former England international, though, given that expectations surrounding him were increased by three clean sheets in four games to close the season and rumors of high-profile transfer offers before the market closed.

McCrorie, who has represented his country at every level from under-15s to under-21s, has not yet been awarded a full international cap, so if he is in with a chance of making it to the Euros, it would make perfect sense for him to go on loan for the second half of the season.
And with the significant drop from Butland to third-choice Jon McLaughlin were something to happen to the starter, there will undoubtedly be takers if Clement and the Rangers are willing to approve a trade next month.
Both sides would probably benefit from a six-month contract with a recall option if necessary, but his long-term future will almost definitely come up again in the summer.
