The Scottish Daily Mail reports that Rangers’ request to play the rescheduled Dundee match following the Old Firm match against Celtic has been accepted.
On Thursday, March 21, the newspaper announced on page 79 in print form that the Light Blues and Dark Blues will play in Dens Park on Wednesday, April 10. It is believed that the “angry” Gers requested that the match take place on Sunday, April 7, following their Sunday afternoon matchup with Celtic at Ibrox.
The Scottish Premiership match between Philippe Clement’s team and Dundee was postponed last Saturday, with less than two hours to go before kickoff because of a flooded ground.
Dundee might be fined for “persistently breaching rules on pitch maintenance,” according to the Scottish Daily Mail.
Rangers granted Celtic’s wish while SPFL decides on Dens Park
Rangers find the rescheduling of this game to be quite inconvenient as it has resulted in a glut of fixtures following this international break later in the season.
Additionally, it means that rather than winning at Dens Park to take the lead back into the Scottish Premiership, the Gers entered the two-week break fresh off a Europa League loss to Benfica.
Even so, the additional sleep will be beneficial before the post-season split games are announced, which include matches against Hibs at Ibrox on March 30, Celtic at Ibrox on March 30, Dundee at Dens on April 10, and Ross County at Victoria Park on April 14.
Nevertheless, the club didn’t really need it.
Fortunately, the SPFL saw sense and decided that it wouldn’t be fair to create fixture congestion before the Old Firm, so the rescheduled game will take place after that.
