SFA referee responded angrily on Sky Sports after what Clement said about Rangers postponement

Rangers’ Don Robertson clarifies the decision to postpone the Dundee match in response to comments from Philippe Clement. The decision, made just before the scheduled kick-off, drew a strong reaction from Rangers’ manager, who noted that this was likely the only match postponed in Scotland that weekend. However, Robertson maintains that the decision was straightforward, prioritizing player safety.

Robertson explained on Sky Sports News that the decision to postpone the match was primarily due to safety concerns for the players. He pointed out areas in front of one of the dugouts that were unsafe due to waterlogging, making it difficult for the ball to travel or bounce properly.

When asked about the timing of the decision, Robertson mentioned that they relied on the home club’s assessment of the pitch. Dundee identified areas of concern upon their arrival in the morning, prompting a pitch inspection agreed upon by both clubs and the league. The final decision to postpone the match was made at 10:15, following the agreed-upon procedure.

This marks Dundee’s fourth postponed game at Dens Park due to a waterlogged pitch this season. Despite efforts by club staff to make the pitch playable, it was deemed unfit for the match, leading to the decision to call it off. Clement’s frustration is understandable, as Rangers had already arrived at Dens Park when the announcement was made.

On that basis, could they not have waited another hour, hour and a half, before making a decision? It would have been even more frustrating had it been called off at that point, but the weather had cleared up and the pitch did look recoverable.

Given the game was being covered live by Sky Sports, the broadcaster may well have also had a say in the decision.

It means that Rangers now have an extra game to factor in after the international break, with Celtic sitting top now for at least the next fortnight.
