The reason behind the postponement of the match just ninety minutes before kickoff owing to severe rains is…

Last night, after Rangers’ Scottish Premiership match against the Dark Blues was postponed an hour and a half before the midday kickoff, Philippe Clement took aim at the condition of Dundee’s surface.

Tayside had heavy overnight rain, therefore local referee Craig Fordyce did a preliminary pitch assessment at 9.15am.

After a second examination at 10.15 a.m. by match referee Don Robertson, it was determined that the field was unsuitable for play because of two areas: one around the halfway line and another inside a penalty box.

Due to Dundee’s third home postponement of the season, Celtic leads Rangers by one point at the top of the league heading into the international break.

Rangers manager Clement criticized Dundee for their pitch, but acknowledged that Robertson had made the right decision.

Rangers boss Philippe Clement to criticised the state of Dundee's pitch after a postponement

“It’s quite peculiar,” he remarked. “In all of Scotland’s leagues, this will be the only field where a game has been postponed.” That indicates to me that the weather is unrelated to it.

There were football fields in the lower levels where people could play while it poured throughout Scotland. The ball was bouncing there. The ball wasn’t bouncing here, though. Thus, it is obvious that something is off.

Additionally, there were areas of the field where a lot of sand had been added, leaving the players without any stability. It poses a serious risk of injury.

“We just ran out of time,” said John Nelms, managing director of Dundee, in defense of his team. There’s a good chance the pitch might be used if our match was at 3pm.

“Nobody is at fault.” We’re trying our hardest. We recently installed new drains. We have engaged in every one of those activities.
