Rangers want to sign £3.4m Euro ace, official offer expected soon

According to Sudinfo, Rangers are interested in signing Standard Liege goalkeeper Arnaud Bodart this summer for a deal totaling £3.4m, including bonuses. The Belgian news outlet noted the Light Blues’ strong interest in the 26-year-old and suggested that an official offer could be forthcoming soon.

Bodart is nearing the end of his contract with just one year remaining and is reportedly open to a move to Glasgow. However, Brugge is holding out for a transfer fee of at least €4m (£3.4m).

With the upcoming summer transfer window approaching, Philippe Clement has an opportunity to make significant changes to the squad. Jon McLaughlin’s contract is expiring, and Robby McCrorie is expected to leave after falling down the pecking order and seeing limited game time under Clement this season.

This situation creates an opening for a new goalkeeper to join and provide competition. However, spending £3.4m on a backup option may seem excessive. Several players are likely to depart, and there’s a pressing need to reinforce outfield positions with players who align with the manager’s vision.

While signing a new goalkeeper is necessary, unless a major sale generates funds, there might be more suitable options to serve as an understudy to Jack Butland next season.
