Rangers want to sign star Levski Sofia defender this summer

El Marcador TV reports that Rangers plan to sign Panama international Jose Cordoba this summer to strengthen their defense.

Speaking on their official X account (8 May), the news outlet reports that the 22-year-old Levski Sofia star has piqued Philippe Clement’s interest and is available for around €3 million.

Clubs in France and Turkey are also interested, but according to journalist Jose Miguel Dominguez, Rangers’ participation in Europe is a major factor in the process and could aid their pursuit of a player who was the “best defender in his league” this season.

Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen’s transfer strategy pays off.

According to reports from the January transfer window, Ibrox’s transfer strategy will shift to focus on different regions, including South America.

Mohammed Diomande and Oscar Cortes were part of that plan, and both have been excellent in their short time at the club; if Cordoba is signed and follows a similar path, it can only be good news.

This season, injuries have plagued the center of defense, and Connor Goldson’s future is uncertain due to recent issues and interest from Saudi Arabia.

Ben Davies is also expected to leave the club after a limited number of opportunities, and Leon Balogun is also out of contract, so the position requires strengthening.

At £2.5 million, the club would be making good use of their limited budget in the market by addressing a problem position and bringing in someone with high potential. This is a win-win situation.

Rangers are close to signing a sensation on their first professional contract, beating out Premier League giants.
