Rangers v Dundee ‘worst case scenario’ emerges as fears mount for key fixture

Dundee remains firm that their rescheduled match against Rangers will proceed on Wednesday night, despite emerging backup plans due to concerns over the playing surface, as reported by the Daily Record.

The newspaper, through their website, revealed on the late evening of 8 April that the club was formulating plans amid growing worries about the condition of the pitch at Dens Park.

In case the pitch remains unfit for play, following its previous postponement due to waterlogging before the international break visit by Philippe Clement’s team, the contingency plan involves pushing the game by 24 hours to Thursday night (11 April).

Given the anticipated downpours from Monday night to Thursday morning, the “worst-case scenario” Plan C entails playing the match behind closed doors at a neutral venue. However, Dundee is resolute that their pitch will be ready for play as scheduled on Wednesday.

Motherwell secured a 3-2 victory in their controversial match on Saturday, with Stuart Kettlewell voicing concerns about the unsuitability of the sanded pitch and its impact on player safety.

The potential disruption to this crucial game is unwelcome for Rangers, particularly given its importance in the league standings. Clement expressed disappointment in the previous postponement, especially after the intense 3-3 draw with Celtic, highlighting the significance of this upcoming match in potentially reclaiming the top spot in the league.

The psychological impact of the previous postponement on both Rangers and Brendan Rodgers’ team is uncertain, considering how the rearranged fixture affected their league positions before and after the international break.

Philippe Clement wasn’t impressed when Rangers at Dundee was first called off.

But with the split coming after one further set of games and a trip to Parkhead likely to be one of the first scheduled this is developing into a headache at a crucial stage of the title race.

It is vital that the Light Blues get a win and hold an advantage before the final meeting with the Hoops so the uncertainty around this game is proving far less than ideal preparation.
