Rangers out-of-contract stars: Who will stay and who will leave this summer

Rangers manager Philippe Clement has had very little time to build his exact squad at the Ibrox outfit.

But the Belgian will get a superb chance to do just that in the summer transfer window, having experienced his first transfer window in Glasgow in January.

He will, however, see a total of nine players run down their contracts at the end of the season, with decisions to be made on all nine players.

Football Insider has analysed the latest on such contract situations, speaking to club sources and assessing the chances of each star extending their stay at Ibrox.

Fabio Silva (21)

Perhaps top of the list for Rangers fans is loanee Fabio Silva, who joined temporarily from Premier League club Wolves midway through the season.

After initial struggles, the striker has won over the Ibrox faithful, who will be delighted that Wolves plan to accept an offer for his services this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Verdict: STAYS

Abdallah Sima (22)

Another talented forward on loan from the Premier League, Brighton man Sima has been hugely impressive during his time at Ibrox.

The Gers hierarchy should be doing their utmost to make his deal permanent, with sources telling Football Insider that the club could raise funds for such a deal by qualifying for the Champions League.

Verdict: STAYS

John Lundstram (30)

Lundstram has been a standout for Clement in recent times, with his displays in midfield helping the Gers succeed in various competitions.

The 30-year-old undoubtedly still has a lot left to give, but worryingly talks over a new deal have stalled after the Gers offered him a new contract, sources have told Football Insider.

Verdict: STAYS

Borna Barisic (31)

The Croatian has found himself out of favour under Clement, having been a firm favourite as Rangers left-back for several years.

An Ibrox exit has seemingly already been decided for Barisic this summer, with sources telling Football Insider that the 31-year-old has agreed terms with Turkish side Trabzonspor, and will move there as soon as the season ends.

Verdict: LEAVES

Kemar Roofe (31)

Rangers

Roofe’s time in Scotland has been severely impacted by injuries, much to the frustration of his various managers.

The striker certainly knows how to find the back of the net, but Clement will have grown tired of his lack of availability ahead of the new season.

Verdict: LEAVES

Oscar Cortes (20)

Cortes arrived in Glasgow temporarily from RC Lens in January with high expectations, and he certainly met those expectations by impressing in blue.

Injury has unfortunately cut the winger’s campaign short, but his bright start under Clement should force the manager into triggering the option to buy in his contract.

Verdict: STAYS

Ryan Jack (32)

Rangers

At 32, Jack boasts plenty of big-game experience from his time at the club, with such experience crucial in the constant battle domestically and in Europe.

But the midfielder could be allowed to leave Ibrox this summer due to his age and indeed the other options that are currently at the club.

Verdict: LEAVES

Leon Balogun (35)

Balogun rejoined the Ibrox side last summer under Michael Beale, seemingly acting as a capable back-up to the first-choice centre-backs.

But he has been forced to come onto the scene at times this season due to injury, although his second spell at the club looks destined to come to an end this summer.

Verdict: LEAVES

Jon McLaughlin (36)

McLaughlin was looked upon favourably at Ibrox once upon a time, but the standout displays of Jack Butland have ensured that a number one spot under Clement is a long way away.

Robby McCrorie meanwhile has acted as Butland’s deputy, with 36-year-old McLaughlin surely on his way out, with sources telling Football Insider that the player will walk away from Ibrox for free in May.
