Rangers enter £12m transfer battle with Champions League club for star with pace to burn and samba feet

Reports from Colombia suggest that Rangers’ interest in Colombian winger Jhon Arias has resurfaced, but they could face tough competition from clubs in England and Spain. Arias, 26, currently plays for Copa Libertadores champions Fluminense in Brazil and has caught the eye of several European teams, including Rangers.

Gers manager Philippe Clement previously brought in Oscar Cortes on loan in January, but Cortes suffered a season-ending injury, casting doubt on a permanent move from Lens. Meanwhile, Arias, looking to impress at the Copa America, has an impressive record with Fluminense, boasting 33 goals and 36 assists in 155 appearances.

South American journalist Christian Martin reports that Rangers, along with Spanish giants Atletico Madrid and English Premier League teams West Ham, Crystal Palace, and Wolves, are monitoring Arias due to his skills and experience. However, Fluminense’s asking price of at least €10 million plus a future sell-on fee could be a hurdle for Rangers, as Arias is contracted until 2026.

Rangers previously had interest in Fluminense left-back Jefte, but a deal fell through in January, leading to disciplinary action against the player for going AWOL after the transfer fell through.
