Journalist Dean Jones claims that if England manager Gareth Southgate decides to call up Jack Butland next month, it will come as a “surprise.”
Since coming to Ibrox on a free transfer last summer after being released by Crystal Palace, Butland has excelled.
This has given rise to rumors that he would be included in the England team for the friendly against Brazil and Belgium in March.
Jones stated in an interview with GiveMeSport on February 23 that he thought it would be unexpected, but more so in the sense that England doesn’t currently seem to need to follow that course than in any way to disparage Jack Butland’s accomplishments.
“One of the things we know about Jack Butland is that, despite his role as a backup goalie, he is actually a very wonderful person to have around due to his personality, character, and reliability when needed.
“He could be a good choice if that is what Gareth Southgate wants in a third-choice goalkeeper.”

A call-up would be unexpected because Butland hasn’t played for England in five and a half years.
Or it would have, had it been brought up prior to this season, when Butland was on loan at Manchester United, observing.

To be sure, the 30-year-old had seen very little playing time in the previous few seasons before resuming his career in Glasgow.
Butland has proven to be the most dependable player for the Gers this year, and he appears to have a place in the England team.
Although Jordan Pickford is undoubtedly the best, Sam Johnstone and Butland may challenge Pickford at the Euros since Aaron Ramsdale is out and Nick Pope is recovering from an injury.
And Butland would deserve a call-up to the national team after spending years in the wilderness for his outstanding performance during the last four months or so under Philippe Clement’s guidance.
