Rangers: After hearing about Joe Hart at Celtic, Stephen McGinn becomes enamored of Jack Butland.

Rangers: McGinn gushes over Jack Butland after Joe Hart news

Stephen McGinn has gushed over Jack Butland, questioning how Rangers managed to sign him for free, following the news that Celtic keeper Joe Hart is set to retire.

During his appearance on the Go Radio Football Show, the captain of Falkirk at the moment stated that Celtic will need to be as resourceful in their search for a new goalkeeper as Rangers were with Butland’s acquisition.
McGinn persisted in saying that Butland’s signing at Ibrox was almost too good to be true, and his season-long performances have validated his claims.

During an interview with Go Radio Football Show on February 22, McGinn said, “The Rangers thought the Jack Butland deal was too good to be true.” How are they getting him on a free transfer, I thought to myself at the time.

“You think that’s too good to be true when you consider the standards in England for having homegrown players, his experience, and his age.

“He turned out to be a really good business partner. In order to replace Joe Hart, Celtic will need to put their thinking caps on.

Jack Butland has performed admirably for the Rangers.

During the summer transfer window, Butland has excelled at Ibrox, outperforming all other new arrivals who couldn’t live up to expectations.

Butland acknowledged he had recently talked with Gareth Southgate, and given his performances, a return to the England group for the first time since 2018 is very much on the horizon.

Because of Butland’s remarkable play, the club had to struggle in January to keep him at Ibrox when Nottingham Forest and another English team made a last-ditch effort to entice him to leave Glasgow after just six months.

With Hart now set to leave Celtic, the opposite side of Glasgow will be scrambling to find a new number-one goalkeeper – but it looks unlikely they’d be able to find one of Butland’s quality, which again highlights how well Rangers did to bring him in.
