Three days after initially hurting his hamstring against Benfica, Sterling hobbled off during the first half of the Gers’ 2-0 Viaplay Cup victory on Sunday, March 10.

Although the 24-year-old was at least moving around freely at Easter Road, Philippe Clement stated following the game that he is not sure whether he will be ready for Thursday’s (March14) second leg against Benfica.

Rangers Review writer Barrie wrote on his personal Twitter page, March 10, that “you hope his injury isn’t serious” because Sterling was walking at the end of the game.

Dujon Sterling is competing to play for Rangers against Benfica.

Given that he was spotted a few days prior with an icepack on to his hamstring, it is unclear exactly why Sterling started against Hibernian.

It was evident that the Englishman needed a break, and that is not saying anything with the advantage of hindsight.

Now that Sterling, who scored in Portugal, is undoubtedly a serious question for the second leg against Benfica, Clement might suffer the price.

If that’s the case, it would be unfair to the player because he’s gained self-assurance and earned his starting position at Estadio da Luz.

Ross McCausland replaced Sterling against Hibs but left the game in the second half, indicating that Clement’s injury troubles are getting worse.

The good thing is that there are important games against Benfica and Dundee coming up before the international break.

For the next two games of the week, Clement will have to employ his entire team, or what’s left of it.
