IT’S COMPLETED. This summer, Rangers may just need to pay £2 million to acquire their next Connor Goldson.

Leopold Querfeld has been observed by Rangers this season, and the Scottish Premiership powerhouses may be able to sign the Rapid Vienna defender for an incredible £2 million.

When he states that Rapid Vienna won’t precisely be negotiating the defender’s future from a position of power, reporter Peter Linden is not entirely incorrect.

Leopold Querfeld’s contract with the Austrian company expires in a little over a year. And, with a summer-activating 2.5 million euro release clause, Rangers or one of the young player’s numerous pursuers may be able to score a deal on a guy who has been an exceptional performer for a squad that is currently sixth in the Austrian Bundesliga.

Rangers observe Leopold Querfeld, a defender for Rapid Vienna.

According to Linden’s blog, “Querfeld (has been) the most stable and the best – at least defensively – Rapid player this season.”

“Querfeld can opt out of the contract after this season if a foreign team pays a 2.5 million euro transfer fee to acquire him.” The final day of the 2023 summer transfer window saw Udinese ready to pay that much for him.

“(Director Markus) Katzer requested five million (euros) at that point. Rapid now has to (sell him for a) lower (amount). Not ideal circumstances for Katzer and Rapid to be in.

Rangers have viewed Querfelt and his Rapid teammate Matthias Seidl, as far as HITC Football is aware. The latter is an exceptionally technical and cerebral offensive midfielder, with a remarkable goal return from his center place in Seidl. Even though Tom Lawrence, Todd Cantwell, and Kemar Roofe can all perform comparable duties, one could argue that Querfeld would be slightly more useful at Ibrox.

A replacement for Connor Goldson?

The 6′ 3″ center-half, who has 11 caps for Austria’s Under-21 team, would be a good replacement for Connor Goldson, who is getting older and more prone to mistakes.

Goldson, whose play of late has been somewhat inconsistent, scored an own goal in last week’s 2-2 Europa League first-leg tie in Lisbon against Benfica.

Along with Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace, HITC has also been informed that Fulham, Burnley, Wolves, and Leicester City are also considered for the Querfeld. The same goes for Rangers’ Old Firm rivals.

Gijs Smal, the left-back for FC Twente, is likewise a supporter of both Celtic and Rangers. It seems improbable that the gifted Dutchman will fight across Glasgow, as Smal is reportedly headed to Feyenoord.
