IMPOSSIBLE Following a head injury sustained during the Scottish Cup quarterfinal, Socceroos star Martin Boyle is in a stable condition.

Following a head injury sustained during Hibernian’s Scottish Cup quarterfinal loss to Rangers, Australian international Martin Boyle is listed as being in “stable condition” at the hospital.

The 30-year-old winger seemed to stumble during a high ball battle with John Souttar, brother of fellow Socceroo Harry Souttar, during the first half of Sunday’s game at Hibs’ Easter Road stadium. He was taken off the field on a stretcher.

Graham Arnold, the manager of the Socceroos, must have been concerned about the knock given how close Australia was to facing Lebanon in a World Cup qualifier on March 21 in Sydney.

Although Souttar was unharmed, medical personnel responded fast to cater to the Australian international, causing the match to be delayed for over ten minutes while a stretcher was brought in.

Both sets of players gave Boyle, a great fan favorite at Hibernian, a standing ovation and praised him as he was carried off the field and transported directly to the hospital.

“Hibernian FC can confirm that Martin Boyle is now in a stable condition in hospital,” the team said in a statement later on Sunday.

“After the first-half incident against Rangers, the winger rushed immediately to the hospital and is now receiving the best care available.

“The team would like to express gratitude to the medical staff of both teams for promptly treating to Martin on the field. Martin’s quick recovery is wished by all at Hibernian FC.”

The former Central Coast Mariners manager, Nick Montgomery, of Hibs, told BBC Scotland he would give the player a call later on Sunday.

“He’s landed on his head, probably a bit of concussion, a bit of a sore neck and that’s something you have to worry about,” said Montgomery.

Rangers went on to win the tie 2-0 against Hibs, and Celtic—the team that won the trophy under Ange Postecoglou last year—beat Livingston 4-2 in another last-eight encounter.
