“I’m not sure,”Rangers: Michael Stewart responds right away to the Hibernian vs. Dujon Sterling issue

Michael Stewart does not believe that Rangers’ first-half Scottish Cup fifth-round matchup against Hibernian at Easter Road should have resulted in a penalty kick for Dujon Sterling.

Referee Steven McLean gave the penalty after it looked that Jordan Obita, who was playing on the flanks for Rangers, clipped Sterling during Sunday’s match (10 March).

Stewart, however, felt that Sterling was lucky to receive the verdict while responding right away to the decision, when co-commentating for Viaplay.

It’s awkward, but I’m not sure if he clips him. Does Sterling simply go over when he senses the contact? It’s a challenging one,” he remarked.

You know what, I don’t think that’s a penalty, but I need to check to see if there’s a clipping. I believe Sterling trips and falls because he feels some contact.

“In football, there will inevitably be a coming together. I don’t think there’s any clipping of the heels or Obita obstructing him. I believe Sterling went to ground there as soon as he sensed any touch.

In a match when the home team ultimately fielded nine men, Rangers went on to win 2-0 at Easter Road.

In the Rangers vs. Hibernian penalty decision, Dujon Sterling was involved.

I’m not sure whether I can agree with all Stewart is stating. It appeared to me that Obita got into a major mess and made contact with Sterling, who ended up winning the penalty for his team.

In the end, Rangers’ lead over Hibs at Easter Road came from John Lundstram’s prompt reaction after David Marshall had saved captain James Tavernier’s spot-kick.

Although Tavernier rarely misses from 12 yards or from 25 in dead-ball situations, Lundstram was there to save his teammate, so he can probably get away with the occasional miscalculation from the spot.
