‘I have ambitions’: £3.5m target may have already opened the door for Rangers to sign him

When considering Jack Butland’s impressive performance in his debut season at Rangers, especially highlighted by his recent masterful display in the Old Firm derby against Celtic, the need for a new goalkeeper might not be the first thing that comes to mind when discussing Philippe Clement’s priorities for the summer transfer window. However, with Jon McLaughlin’s contract expiring and Robby McCrorie seeking more regular game time, reports of Rangers showing strong interest in a £3.5 million-rated goalkeeper start to make more sense.

According to Belgian publication SudInfo, Arnaud Bodart, previously a target for Luton Town and Celtic in 2023, is now on Rangers’ radar. The 26-year-old is familiar to Clement from their time together at Club Brugge. Interestingly, Rangers have also recently brought in Anthony Galinski, a former scout from Royal Antwerp, which adds another layer to their scouting efforts.

Rangers keen on Standard Liege’s Arnaud Bodart

Standard Liege might find themselves pressured to sell Bodart with less than a year left on his contract. As for Bodart’s perspective on a potential move away from Belgium, there are indications that he might be open to it. Reports from SudInfo suggest that he was interested in leaving last summer, which bodes well for Rangers’ pursuit.

Additionally, Bodart’s comments to La Derniere Heure in May 2023 provide further insight into his mindset. He mentioned having ambitions as a footballer and wanting to progress, hinting at a desire for new challenges. However, he also expressed contentment at Standard Liege, especially since he plays for his hometown club, although he admitted missing European matches. These mixed feelings suggest that while Bodart may be open to a move, he also values his current situation at Standard Liege.
