Hugh Keevins challenges a recent Celtic conspiracy claim regarding the Rangers as the Rodgers dismissal decision is revealed.

Brendan Rodgers to exit Celtic as Rangers conspiracy theory rubbished by Hugh Keevins

Hugh Keevins would be “amazed” if Brendan Rodgers was Celtic boss next season while rubbishing suggestions that Hearts lay down for Rangers.

Celtic manager Rodgers has come under fire recently after he called BBC Scotland’s Jane Lewis a “good girl” while in conversation with the reporter following the Hoops’ 3-1 win over Motherwell (25 February).

Writing in the Daily Record (3 March), Keevins believes this latest controversy will have an impact on Rodgers’ plans going forward, stating, “I would be amazed if (Brendan) Rodgers is still Celtic’s manager at the start of next season, whether or not he wins the league title in May.

“You don’t stay where you’re not wanted and all that. We shall wait and see but it will be a source of light relief for the boss today to immerse himself in some good old-fashioned paranoia.

“Conspiracy is always a comfort for fans. It takes their minds off the real world.

“Today they can dive into the old baloney about Hearts lying down to Rangers while trying their damnedest against green-and-white hoops. This stuff is of no consequence to Rodgers. His biggest challenge is to confront the idea that Celtic are clinging on to the title race by their fingertips.”

Scottish Premiership title race between Rangers and Celtic will go down to the wire

Whether or not Celtic supporters want to believe that Hearts rolled over for Rangers isn’t especially relevant in the grand scheme of things, even if it does offer them some comfort.

It is shaping up to be one of the closest title races in years between the Glasgow giants, and Philippe Clement will be keen to take advantage of the controversy surrounding Rodgers which looks as if it could prove to be a distraction for the Hoops.

However, the Gers’ 2-1 defeat at Ibrox against Motherwell on Saturday 2 March was a significant setback and will have offered Celtic a big incentive.

Having finally reached the summit of the Scottish Premiership, the title was in Rangers’ hands, although momentum has now shifted.

Philippe Clement would have been frustrated as Rangers were beaten at home by Motherwell

Rodgers will be keen to put his off-field issues to one side and do his talking on the pitch as he looks to guide Celtic to success, and should he do this, Rangers fans will hope that Keevins is right about the 51-year-old packing his bags at the end of the season.
