Glasgow Derby antics prompt criticism from former referee Fabio Silva

Rangers winger Fabio Silva has come under fire from former Scottish referee Steve Conroy for his antics with diving. In an effort to trick the referee into favoring Rangers, the Portuguese attacker was repeatedly tumbling to the ground.

Speaking to Record Sport, Conroy has taken aim at the former Porto youth for flinging himself to the ground in the first half, something that would come to benefit Rangers.

“What an appalling display from Silva. A premeditated attempt to deceive the referee & get an opponent sent off.”

Silva should’ve probably been more intent on playing as he was denied by two superb Joe Hart stops before the interval. The Wolves loanee was someone rewarded for flinging himself on the ground after contact with Alistair Johnston. John Beaton handed a yellow card to Silva before the game was interrupted for a VAR check.

Inexplicably, when Beaton viewed the monitor, he was shown the contact and not the complete phase where Johnston obviously touched the ball before the winger throws himself to the ground. The following penalty, which James Tavernier scored, altered the tide in the fixture.

Celtic left Ibrox with a point but will feel that it is a squandered chance after being 2-0 up and then 3-2 up in the 88th minute. The title is in Celtic’s hands with six wins bringing a third successive trophy back to Celtic Park.
