As John Nelms has disclosed Dundee requested—and was denied—that the SPFL postpone their match against Rangers by a few hours.

After conducting two independent assessments of the Dens Park field this morning, referee Don Robertson declared it unfit for play and postponed the match for a later date. Both teams expressed their anger with the decision; the Dees said they tried “all they could” to start the game, while the Gers responded harshly to their opponents.

Now that the game is underway, managing director Nelson has revealed to BBC Sportsound that he asked the SPFL to allow a later kickoff time because his ground crew believed they could win. However, they were told no.

“Well, we were supposed to get six ml of rain last night and got over 12 and we’ve had the groundsmen out here since 5am, I’ve been out here since 5am, getting as many forks into the ground as you can, and we just ran out of time to be quite honest,” said the American.

“Worst thing in the house,” according to Joe Swash, is Stacey Solomon.

“The field would probably be playable for a 3 o’clock match, but as of right now, they claim that there are two small spots where the ball isn’t bouncing; it’s rolling and doing everything else, but we can’t make those two spots ready for play.

“Could it be completed by midday? That is up for debate. Could three people play it? Indeed.

“Have I requested a wait? I requested that the league official ask for a delay so that we could see what might be done, but the league declined, stating that the referee’s ruling would be final.”

Nelms responded, “I can’t say that (the game could have gone ahead with an hour delay), but our ground staff crew can say that, the guys who are experts,” when asked if he thought the game could have been played an hour or so later. They believed we could get along because they are the ones who can say it. I understand that you have to make a decision about the fans’ travel and other matters.

“The referees have made that decision and off we go.”
