This season, Fashion Sakala, a former Rangers star, is forming a prolific all-African attack partnership with an ex-Celtic target, and the two are getting close to creating history at their Saudi Pro League team at Al Fayha.

The Zambian has formed a strong alliance with Henry Onyekuru, a Nigerian who rejected the Hoops six years ago in favor of a £7 million contract to join Everton of the English Premier League. Last summer, Sakala and Onyekuru moved from Europe to the Middle East, with Sakala leaving his two-year contract at Ibrox and Onyekuru joining Turkish team Adana Demirspor instead of Turkey.

Sakala, who came to Rangers from Belgian team Oostende at the time that Steven Gerrard was manager, has adapted very well to Al Fayha and has participated in all 24 games for Serbian team Vuk Rasovic, contributing four assists and ten goals. Sakala has soared to eighth position in the league, and they can always depend on Onyekuru, who is also 27 and just a few months younger than the former Ibrox striking hero, when Sakala is unable to reach the back of the goal. After failing to make an impression at Goodison Park, Onyekuru left to join Galatasaray on loan, where he assisted them in winning two games. Later, he relocated to Monaco, but it didn’t work out either, so he moved again, this time to Olympiacos in Greece, and then back to Turkey.

He is making an impression in the Saudi Pro League, and not only because of his bleached blonde hair. He has scored ten goals for Al Fayha, which is equal to Sakala’s total.

The two are now engaged in an exciting race as they attempt to surpass the club record of 13 goals in a Saudi Pro League season, which was achieved by Chilean Ronnie Fernandez in the 2017–18 campaign.
