Expectations were quickly reduced when the rumored £6 million forward tried to sign a deal with Rangers.

Philippe Clement tempers expectations as £6m Abdallah Sima looks to win Rangers contract

Within Rangers circles, there was undoubtedly a noticeable sense of unease when Abdallah Sima sustained his injury at AFCON.The Senegalese attacker has been largely responsible for the Ibrox team’s goal scoring throughout a sluggish first half of the season.

So much so that Rangers were barely in the running for the championship thanks to the 15 goals the Brighton loanee contributed.

However, with Abdullah Sima’s Ibrox colleagues filling in for him and seizing the championship momentum, the forward’s impending comeback will greatly aid the Rangers’ title run-in.

Philippe Clement tempers the expectations of Abdallah Sima

Abdallah Sima is one of four players back in full training, according to Philippe Clement, speaking ahead of the Scottish Premiership’s resumption against Hibs.

It’s a tremendous boost for the Ibrox team, and supporters will be keen to see the electrifying attacker back in action after a season marred by many serious injuries.

Even if the Rangers manager believes Abdallah Sima will have a significant influence in the latter stretch, he has moderated initial expectations.

“It’s significant, but you can’t expect miracles right away because he hasn’t been around for a while,” Clement said.

“He has the ability to score goals, power, and pace, and he performed well in the training.” That’s good, then. He is now regaining his strength and rhythm, and I believe the next two months will see him play a significant role.

Will Rangers spend more than £6 million for a striker?

Abdallah Sima has more than just Rangers’ ambitions of winning the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish Cup to lose in the coming months.

The Senegalese forward’s camp and Rangers have both said that he would be happy to remain longer in Glasgow; but, given that Brighton will pay more than £6 million for the player in 2021, any long-term transfer would probably come at a cost to the Ibrox team.

There may be opportunity for a deal to be reached as the striker enters the last year of his contract with the Seagulls and is thought to be within Rangers’ budget.

But how this season ends could define Abdallah Sima’s Ibrox future between the price of any transfer and the success the forward might enjoy in Glasgow.

Going by the comments of Clement, it appears Abdallah Sima is hungry to have that impact and let’s hope this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship with the forward.
