BREAKING NEWS: Ipswich Town set to sign Rangers star player in summer.

Ipswich Town is reportedly poised to acquire Rangers standout John Lundstram on a free transfer at the season’s end, as revealed by journalist Ezgi Alp from Gunebakis. Alp reported through her personal X account on April 18 that Trabzonspor is interested in signing the 30-year-old midfielder. Still, Ipswich, leading in the English Championship, seems to have outmaneuvered the Super Lig club in securing his signature.

Lundstram’s contract is nearing its expiration, and initially, it was expected he would extend his stay at Ibrox, given his pivotal role under Philippe Clement this season. However, the latest report indicates that Ipswich, eyeing promotion to the Premier League, has won the race for Lundstram, overcoming Trabzonspor’s reluctance due to the player’s high wage demands of £32,000 per week (£1.7 million annually).

The potential departure of John Lundstram poses a significant concern for Rangers. As their season, which started brightly, faces setbacks with disappointing results, losing Lundstram would compound their challenges. Lundstram has been a mainstay under Clement, playing a crucial role in midfield and featuring regularly. His importance is underscored by being among the club’s few players to have logged over 4,000 minutes across all competitions, a testament to his reliability.

Clement likely prefers not to lose such a key player without compensation, initially expecting Lundstram to sign a new contract. However, Ipswich’s swift move has disrupted this plan, leaving Rangers with a notable void to fill and no transfer fee to assist in that transition.
